RDS Setup
RDS (Remote Desktop Service) allows users to work from home/off site.
We do not randomly give out access to RDS, if you want to request to use RDS, please speak to your Manager to use it. Ask them to contact IT so we have conformation to get RDS started for you. Of course it must be stated that when we when we have granted you access to RDS, you will have issues with your Microsoft progrms, this is because the next step will require you to download Microsoft Authenticator
When using RDS it must be stated that Microsoft Authenticator is NEEDED in order for RDS to work.
Microsoft Authenticator can be downloaded from the Appstore/play store for android and apple devices.
The reason why Microsoft Authenticator is needed is because it is for security purposes and for our security policy. It keeps the information on those documents/programs safe whilst outside of the company head office. You will want the Microsoft Authenticator with this icon:
When you have installed Authenticator follow the on screen steps, if you have any worries or concerns, please contact the IT helpdesk.
When opening the app, you will want to click on the sign in option work or school. You will notice 2 options before pressing anything, go back to your screen and continue as normal, there will be an option to scan a QR code, the screen will display a QR code for scan. That's where the 2nd option on your phone comes into play, click on Scan QR Code.
When the QR code is scanned your profile will be created in Microsoft Authenticator, it will require you to input a number on your phone from what you see on the screen e.g. the screen will ask you type 45 on your phone. If the steps are followed correctly then you are ready to begin using RDS.
Using RDS
RDS can be accessed through the desktop icon that IT installs for you, or it can be accessed here :
